In January 2015 Atlantas engineer and ROV pilot Mark Salter boarded a flight for Azerbajan to assist Maersk with ROV inspections on a semi submersible rig in the Caspian Sea. With a VideoRay Pro 4 system checked in as baggage he flew out to the inspection site and quickly got to work with the inspection task.
Using the tritech micron sonar for obstacle avoidance, he was able to complete a hull survey to assess historical damage to the hull of the semi sub in order to satisfy the classification society.
Adding additional value for the client, he was able to mount a buckleys proximity CP probe to the underside of the Pro 4, and produce a CP map of the rig’s impressed current cathodic protection system.
Laura Booth (Maesrk) commented – “Well done on completing the inspection under difficult weather conditions. It is good to hear the inspection is completed and satisfies ABS. The rest is a bonus, as I wasn't sure it would work!”
